How Smart A/E/C Marketers Add Value to Their Firms

Predicting outcomes = impossible.

Looking for patterns and trends = invaluable to stakeholders. 📈

This was a key takeaway from a recent  SMPS—Society for Marketing Professional Services - San Antonio chapter meeting.

New A/E/C marketers who want to grow their careers must know how to spot trends to help managers make informed decisions.

💯One of the presenters, Cleary Zimmerman's Joyce Watson, CPSM, encouraged emerging leaders to be curious and collaborative. I agree with Joyce and her co-presenter Audra Allen that these traits drive growth.

⚠️Guessing is very expensive in business.

The bottom line is knowing how to ask quality questions, listen deeply, and identify patterns that others miss.

Deciding to Prioritize Your Communication

You decide.

Taking small, consistent actions each day can be an effective way to make progress toward your goals.

If you have reasons for not taking even a small step toward your goal, consider whether any of those reasons might be holding you back.

🚩Another word for reasons is excuses.

Sometimes, what we see as reasons could also be seen as obstacles to progress.

Yes, we're all busy. Many people in A/E/C feel burned out, overwhelmed, or anxious. The world can feel beyond chaotic.

And, even in tumultuous times, many people try not to let their circumstances keep them stuck.

Here's something to consider: Some of the most important conversations aren’t with bosses or partners.

The conversations and communication you have with yourself are critical. 💯

Your self-talk. Your internal chatter. This is what matters most.

🥇Your internal narrative shapes your mindset and success.

When you bypass reasons and focus fully on your goal, consistent action and accountability can help you reach the finish lin...

Data Centers are Booming, But Seller-Doer Meetings Don't Need More Data

It’s no secret that data center construction is booming.

It’s mostly fueled by AI and our demand for more data, faster speeds, and more answers.

But here’s the irony I see every week in A/E/C business development.

Seller-doer interviews aren’t lost because teams lack data.

Firms lose bids because decision-makers are overwhelmed with too many numbers.

Clients already have plenty of data from proposals.

Here’s the truth: Stakeholders are deciding if they trust who is in the room.

Successful interviews aren’t driven by slide decks—they’re driven by human connection.

• Clear, confident storytelling

• Thoughtful small talk that builds rapport

• Being present, personable, and intuitive

• Reading the room and responding—not rambling

Artificial Intelligence may be transforming how projects are designed and built.

But people still hire people.

This human side of communication is exactly why I created Top Tier Communicator.

It's where A/E/C’s emerging leaders develop essential sk...

The Key to Showing Value to New A/E/C Hires So They'll Stay

Today's emerging talent wants more than a welcome packet and an awkward free lunch.

This generation wants others to see, hear, and value them.

They want coaching and wisdom; not onboarding jargon.

🔷Humans have an innate desire to feel included.

To be part of a group or community.

And above all, younger generations want training because they want to grow.

When communication is one-way (or nonexistent), newcomers to A/E/C quietly disengage.

You miss the opportunity to transfer knowledge. 🚩

New employees find the door and leave, depleting your training investment, team stability, and project momentum.

And every time new hires walk out the door, your firm suffers from:

👉Lost productivity

👉Delayed schedules

👉Missed pursuits

Multiply that by a few exits each year, and the revenue impact is real.💰

Ongoing, impactful training with today's communication skills is not a perk.

It has nothing to do with a freebie pizza lunch.

🧨It's about having a retention strategy with bottom-line results.

Let's build the...

Your Secret Sauce to Beating Competitors

Reading body language and other nonverbal communication skills is key to capturing more pursuits.

When you connect Human-to-Human (H2H) using this technique, you'll have clients and referrals for life.

🧨These little-known nuances blow away the A/E/C pros I coach, and they use this knowledge for years to come.

It's intriguing, high-level communication, and it's fun!
